Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Kapr ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what we collect when you use our mobile application, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
2. Using Kapr Without an Account
You can use Kapr without creating an account, and this is how the app works by default. In this mode your device is identified only by a randomly generated identifier that is not linked to your name, email address, or phone number.
We store your learning progress against that identifier on our servers so it is not lost if the app closes unexpectedly. This includes lessons completed, points, streak, daily goals, saved words, exam results, and game scores, together with the course you are studying and the display name and avatar the app generates for you.
3. Optional Accounts
You may choose to sign in with Google or Apple so your progress can be recovered if you change phone or reinstall the app. Signing in is entirely optional and no feature of the app is restricted if you skip it.
If you do sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) receives and stores your email address and the name and profile picture supplied by Google or Apple. We use this solely to recognise you when you return and to reconnect you with the progress described above. We do not use your email for marketing, and we do not post anything to your Google or Apple account.
4. Other Data
If you contact us through the in-app support form, we store the name, subject, and message you submit so we can reply and improve the app. If you choose to attach a screenshot or a screen recording, it is stored with your message, seen only by our support team, and deleted 180 days after it was sent. While the app is open it periodically records that your device is active, so the app can show how many people are learning at that moment. We also record anonymous visit counts on our website.
5. Microphone, Speech Recognition and Audio Stories
Speaking practice and shadowing let you record yourself saying a word or sentence. Kapr uses your microphone only while you press the record button. The recording is kept as a temporary file on your device so you can play it back and compare it with the original; it is never uploaded to Kapr and we never store it. Each new recording replaces the previous one.
To show which words you said clearly, Kapr uses the speech recognition built into your phone (Apple Speech on iPhone and iPad, Google speech recognition on Android). Depending on your device and language this runs on the device itself or on Apple's or Google's servers, under their own privacy policies. Kapr does not receive or keep your voice or the text recognised from it. The microphone and speech recognition are only requested when you first use these features, and you can turn them off at any time in your phone's settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
The AI tutor («قسە لەگەڵ کەپر») is optional and asks for your permission before your first message. What you type to it, or what your phone's speech recognition wrote down when you spoke to it (your voice itself stays on your phone), is sent to OpenAI to write the tutor's answer and corrections, and to OpenAI's moderation service to keep the conversation safe. OpenAI processes it under its API terms, which do not use it to train their models; OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse. Kapr keeps your messages and the tutor's replies so that our team can check the tutor's quality and act on misuse, and counts how much you use it each day for the daily allowance. The tutor's spoken replies are made by OpenAI's text to speech from the reply text.
Kapr Radio stories are downloaded to your device when you choose to and are played from there. To show how often a story is listened to, the app records that a story was started or finished, together with your device's random identifier. No audio is recorded for this.
6. Profiles, Chat and Community
Kapr has social features: a public profile (display name, avatar or an optional profile photo you upload, the course you study and your learning statistics), following, one-to-one chat, a community board, game invitations and the nightly arena. Everything you post or send through these features is stored on our servers and shown to other learners as described here: profiles, community posts and comments are visible to every Kapr user; chat messages are visible only to the two people in the conversation. You can post in the community under your display name or anonymously; anonymous posts show no name, picture or course to other learners, but our moderators can still see who posted them.
If you tap "translate" on a chat message, the text of that one message is sent to our translation provider (Anthropic) to produce the translation and is not kept by us beyond showing it to you.
A chat can only start after the other person accepts a request, and you can block anyone at any time, which hides you from each other everywhere in the app. You can report a profile, a chat, a post or a comment from the app; reports reach our moderators together with the content in question. We remove content that breaks the community rules and may suspend the account that posted it. Profile photos are shrunk on your device before upload and are never used for anything other than showing your profile.
Deleting your account (see the account deletion section below) removes your profile, photo, chat messages, community posts, comments, likes and votes. Reports you sent remain in our records without your identifier so that moderation decisions stay explainable.
You can delete a chat message you sent for both people within an hour of sending it. It disappears from the conversation for both of you, but our moderators can still read it, so that a message that was reported cannot be hidden from them by deleting it. It is removed with the rest of the conversation when both people delete the conversation (unless a report about it is still open) or when either account is deleted.
Proctored Examination (kapr.kurdclass.com/exam)
The proctored edition of the Kapr English Certificate is taken in a web browser with the camera and microphone on. It is separate from the app and you only take part if you register for it.
When you register we collect your name, phone number and, if you give it, your email address. During the sitting we collect a photo of you, a photo of the identity document you show to the camera, a photo from your camera about every thirty seconds, pictures of your shared screen (on a computer), recordings of your spoken answers, short sound clips if talking is heard during the reading and writing papers, your typed answers, and a record of events such as leaving the examination page, leaving full screen or pasting text. We also record your IP address and browser type.
During the sitting, software running in your own browser checks the camera picture for your face, for other people, and for a phone or a book. This analysis happens on your device: the camera video is not streamed to us and no face template is stored on our servers. When a check notices something, the event and one camera photo are sent to the examiner.
This information is used only to confirm who sat the examination, to check that its rules were followed, and to mark it. It is seen only by Kapr examiners. It is not used for advertising and is not shared with anyone else.
Photos, the identity document image and voice recordings are deleted 90 days after the sitting. Your result and certificate record (name, scores, date and certificate number) are kept so the certificate can be verified. To have a sitting and its result deleted sooner, contact us with the phone number you registered with.
7. Third-Party Services
We use Google AdMob to display advertisements, and Google may collect and use certain data for advertising purposes in line with its own privacy policy. On iOS, personalised advertising is only used if you allow tracking when asked. We use Clerk to handle sign-in for the optional accounts described above, Apple and Google speech recognition for checking spoken answers (section 5), and Anthropic to translate chat messages you choose to translate.
8. Deleting Your Data
You can reset your learning progress at any time from Profile → Settings, which erases the progress stored for your device.
If you have signed in, you can permanently delete your account and all progress attached to it from Profile → Settings → Delete account. Your account is hidden at once, and seven days later we remove your Clerk account, including your email address and name, and the progress stored on our servers. Signing in again within those seven days cancels the deletion; after that it cannot be undone. Full instructions are on our account deletion page.
9. Children
Kapr is a general-audience learning app. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in a way that requires parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact us at support@kurdclass.com.
